Would anyone know what kinds of sickle bar mowers fit a kubota m5700?

Ive had a 14-92 ford in the past and it didnt fit right.

Thanks Dustin

I can't answer your question specifically but can you tell me exactly. is there a reason you only want to use a sickle bar mower?

This was my first question as well. I can’t say it emphatically enough, I will NEVER mow hay with a sickle bar cutter again.

I just wondered if it were just to cut around a pond or if was to actually cut hay. I was going to suggest if for hay go to a farm sale and look for a good conditioned haybine because its not much difference in prices between a good sickle and a good conditioned haybine atleast here.

I'm in the process of buying some property. 165 acres, 15 pastured. My plan is to fence of 2, 5 acres pastures for rotation and hay the other 5 acres. The sickle bars (from what ive seen) are much cheaper than a disc mower. I can see spending $$$ on a disc mower for only 5 acres. It would take 10 years to get a return on my investment.

No coyote you are confused as to what im suggesting... I said a haybine not a disc bine or disc cutter. A haybine has a sickle bar.

I know the difference, both the haybine and disc-mower are pretty expensive. especially one with a conditioner on it. Most im seeing are arounf 1300-2000.

sickles are arounf 750ish

Umm most that know the difference don't mix up the difference between the haybine and disc machines. However, It seems that you know everything about haying equipment so you shouldn't need help determining what fits. Here's food for thought.. A Charolais and a Hereford bovine have same general job however someone that knows the difference between the two wouldn't call a Hereford a Charolais.

Most of the used sickle bar mowers I see aren’t worth $750, but there are a few nice ones out there. But personally, if I could get a usable haybine for $1000 or so (and around here I can), that’s the direction I would go. It doesn’t seem like it now, but that little extra money will be made up in time that you’re NOT sitting on the tractor mowing at 2mph.

With only 5 acres, you’d be money ahead to just buy hay and pasture everything. I’m not sure you’ll ever get your money back with only 5 acres of hay, unless you plan to lease hay ground.

X2 on buy ur hay. What u spend on the hay equipment buys 2yrs worth of hay assuming ur buying 5 or less cows for that 5-10acres. Clear what I'm guessing is timber and expand. Buy hay equipment later on good deals. They can be found with patience and cash on hand

Any sickle bar mower should fit your Kubby if it has a 3 pt hitch and the mower has the same connection. If you want to cut your 5 acres of hay then by all means cut your hay. I hope you have good look in your endeavor.

Wow, that was a snide comment. Please stay off my post. Thank you.

Ran into the same thing with the ford. Most of the old massey mowers should work pretty good.

I'll second (or 3rd) the haybine route if you are set on cutting hay. It isn't that much more expensive, and will cut the time on the tractor down quite a bit.
IMHO, I'd not worry about cutting the hay, and just pasture the ground. You can buy enough good hay for less that it would cost to hay that ground.

I'd go with buy or try and have it done on shares too. Although 5 acres split in 1/2 aint much for either person.

Do you already have the other essential equipment to make hay and just need a way to mow it? Rake, baler, wagon or loader tractor to move round bales?

My 2cnt , Find a used drum mower They are fairly cheap and with some tlc it will do what you want done. I had nightmares last night of searching the field for the wobble off of a Hesston hay conditioner and replacing the blades on the bar. Those machines would make the devil ask for forgiveness.

The only thing i have is a rake. At the end of the day would it be smarter to pasture the 5 acres to increase your (cows in the pasture) time at the end of the year. Or hayt he 5 acres and bring them off the pasture a little early and feed them hay?

I just sold one (for $250 in good shape), they are a PITA to setup even on old Fords.

Just about any other more modern type should be easier, I think the newer style Ford 515 would even fit. I just bought a nice JD sickle for 500, I would have a hard time paying over that for any sickle mower myself.

Oh, and everyone is going to tell you just to buy hay (which is probably a good idea in your situation) be prepared! I would love to make my own hay, not financially wise, but it's just something I would like to do.
