Saturday we will be having a funeral for a young soldier killed in Iraq. He was twenty years old and graduated with my daughter. I just read that that low life self proclaimed preacher Fred Phelps from Topeka Kansas will be here to picket the services. I really dont think folks around here, myself included, will take that rude and sick behaviour lightly. The soldier was a good young man and will be missed.

Hope people keep their heads. A$$holes like that guy Fred aren't worth going to jail over. If it were my son getting buried though.... well let's just say he'd better not come near me.

Sorry to hear of the loss of that young man.

Just as sorry to hear about some fool showing up and showing complete disrespect towards the loved ones left behind.

All I can say is...sorry for OUR loss,.....and try to get a lick in for me if you get half a chance!

It takes a particularly sick, perverted mind to politicise a young soldier's funeral! I know what would have happened if anyone had tried a dispicable stunt like that during the civil war in my country, and it would have been really ugly!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all at this difficult time.

sorry to hear your news Sawgum, hope that man you are talking about leaves well alone for the families sake, some people have no respect.

there has been protests about the English soldier killed there the other day, the poor families have enough to grieve about without these A**holes interfering.

GOD REST THEIR SOLES< BOTH BOYS AND ALL THE OTHER BRAVE SOLDIERS WHO HAVE GIVEN THEIR LIVES FOR PEACE.
Amen.

Not sure if it will be in affect by then but MO has either just past or is about to past a bill making that sort of crap illegal.

Sawgum, sorry to hear of your friend!! I will tell you from being here in Iraq for 28 month's that the young man didn't die for nothing!! The preacher from Kansas needs to come here & meet the Iraqi people & see how the majority feel thankful the USA has helped them. The US military that are in Afgh. & Iraq are doing the American people & others a BIG service. If we don't stop these people over here it will be there soon. I salute the military personel I see & meet here everyday with pride...The young man should be the same...God Bless him!!!!

They did that at a young heros funneral in Buffalo Mo a while back, but seems the local coppers found a number of ways to keep them "further" from the funneral home than the sickos wanted. Bless Chief Maddux and the boys :-) for doing what they could

Any soldier lost in Iraq has my greatest respect. Any soldier lost or not who defends this country has my greatest respect.

Maybe a few folks can meet this guy on his way into town and convince him it would be in his better interest to not go into town. ;-)

Sawgum, Very sorry about your loss.
Do you have any tar and feathers in your area. Sounds like Mr. Phelps needs some.

As tempting as it would be to confront these people, the best thing to do is to make sure law enforcement keeps them a respectful distance from the family. This group is made up of mostly family members, several of which are lawyers including the leader, Fred Phelps. They fund their cult and their protests with proceeds from lawsuits. In other words, they want you to hit one of them.
There is a group of mostly veterans who have been showing up on motorcyles at many of the places this cult has been protesting. They call themselves The Patriot Guard and they position themselves between the protesters and the funeral to shield the family by waving flags and shouting patriotic slogans.

Even if you disagree with the war, you still have to respect the people who are over there doing their best and mourn the losses to the families of the ones who give their lives. I don't see why a protester would have the balls to show up at a funeral. It is extremely poor taste at best and asking to get a beating, at least.

I am sorry for the loss. My son is 18 now and some of his friends are going off. I know the day is coming when we will have our own losses to mourn.

These idiots are not actually protesting the war, but homosexuals. They say that the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the death of soldiers, and the recent huricanes are God's punishment of America for pro Gay rights laws.
My oldest son's Guard Unit is scheduled to be activated and leave for Iraq in June.
