Ok guys, I got a sick cow that has me stumped. She has a protrusion of the belly, about the size of 4 softballs laid side by side. As wet as it is here, I may not be able to get my hands on her very easy. So I dont know if it a abcess or tumor or rupture. It is located on her lower belly on her right side about a foot up from her bag. She is lethargic, but will get if you force her and seems to have no problem getting around. I have given her one shot of penicillian so far with my bow and arrow . Any ideas as to what I have on my hands? Also the cow is about 3 months to calving and she is in good shape.

When did it appear?

My dairy farmer neighbor and boss has a cow who developed something very similar on her right side not long after calving. It runs diagonally from just below and in front of the hip bone down to the edge of the rib cage, all inside the flank area. There are three lumps, two soft ball sized, one more like a football. He suspects it may a hernia and somehow related to calving. However, although it has gradually increased in size, so far she's still acting healthy and milking well, and it's been a little over two months since it first developed.

we had a jersey heifer the had the same type of thing and we had the vet come in and they said it was a hernia and she did fine had acalf and milked good

To be honest, as wet as it is here, it will have to wait, DocGrayBull. If she dies she dies. I have given her some penicillian with my Medi-Dart Bow and Arrow, but that is all I have done. Wishing for the best, thanks for everyones imput.
