sick cow

we have a cow that we have had since she was a baby. she has had 2 calves,her second this past summer. for the last 3 months she has gradually lost weight. we fed this morning, and i noticed that she is not getting aggressive to eat. she just may be too weak, however yesterday she did try to eat. today, she is just not trying. i have notice no cough, but noticed some white mucoid type drainage out of her nose. my husband has noticed that she seems to "throw" up her food, some of it does come out of her mouth, but i have not noticed this. she doesn't drool or act like she is choaking. the main symptom has been the loss of weight. and here the last couple of days, loss of appetite. i was wondering about anaplasmosis.

We shipped an old cow like that a while back. Ended up she had worn her teath down to sharp points and was hurting her to eat. But she was 12yrs old. Your cow seems kinda young for that, but sandy soil will have that effect on them pretty fast. Maybe you can float her teeth like you do for a horse?

Check to see if there is any yellow in the eyes and/or in the vulva.
What area of the USA are you in.
The weigtht loss from anaplasmosis normally comes in a few days and not months. In a few days they are either dead or recuperating.

we live in oklahoma. it has been a gradual weight loss. we are building a house, so we moved them to a neighboring pasture. we also had a bull that did basically the same thing, we bought him at the sale. and it was a gradual process with him, but he had a cough and slowly lost weight until he was so weak he couldn't get up. my husband shot him. i hope the bull didn't bring something to our herd, but that is what i am afraid of.

is there anything that would cause gradual weight loss?

I would definitely rule out anaplasmosis.
I wouldn't think it would be a worm species that the Safeguard isn't killing or the others would have it too.
I would have a vet check her first chance you can.
