First 4 pictures are my cows/heifers. The 2 angus heifers (hopefully bred - blood testing coming soon) could have been registered but I never bothered.

The last picture is of my steers, 5 are being processed in September. There are some Angus and Shorthorn.

Show me pictures of what you have that makes you proud!

The cows and calves being brought in to brand calves. 45 cows and 40 calves. I won't see them again until mid August. The 5 dry cows got kick out on the hill behind the house with 72 yearlings. One hasn't calved yet. I have seen 2 calves. I am sure cow #4 has calved I just haven't seen her in a week. The other cow looked like she was about to calf when we kicked her out 2 weeks ago. I haven't seen her since. I am pretty sure she crawled through the fence and is up on the BLM. We will see her again when the neighbor gathers.

There is a red cow with little droopy horns behind that black Hereford cow in the picture. She had looked to be close to calfing. On a snowy morning I couldn't find her. She waded across the river. Crawled over the fence and went way up the hill to the corner of the fence. She calved up there. I spotted her a couple days later from about half a mile away. Looking through the binoculars I could see she had a calf. I figured one day when the cowboys are around with horses I would have them go get her. A few days after that there was a little red calf with no ear tag in the field. A little looking around and I spotted the red cow with the droopy horns. She came off the hill. Her and the calf crawled through the fence and waded the river to get back to the herd.

What's happening here? Are there 3 calves nursing that cow?
Actually she has her own plus the other three. Last year I ended up hand milking her so I thought why not try putting another calf on her this year. Well I ended up buying 3 at the sale from same farm hoping she'd take one and she took them all. Sometimes ya just get lucky.

Here's a few of mine, all from one family except the last pic

Zecca and Zima (5 months old), she's a big girl, and hasn't even had grass yet (that'll happen next week!)

An auntie of Prada and Chroma, Cenci also has her 10th calf Audi, really liking her

Been 9 years since i put her down, but here's their common grandma Rosie at 16 years old

Not from that family, but a purebred Gelbvieh bull calf, he's looking like he's going to turn out nice!

@Nesikep "Zippy's bull calf at 2 weeks, proudly king if shyte mountain"...that is picture perfect for a calendar! I love cattle and that rugged hills and mountainous landscape. Looks cool and frosty...perfect for cattle. Sometimes I think Texas is a bit too hot for cattle.
it's been a cool spring, but don't let that fool you, it gets hot here too, this is sagebrush and prickly pear country, and even that had a hard time last year when we hit 119F and half the province burnt to the ground. My cows used to HATE the irrigation, but they finally figured out they can stay cool under it

Within an hours drive from me (green spot) over a million acres burnt, fire to the south of me was 200,000 acre

As much as I'm complaining about the cold spring, I'm sure nature can use a rest and a drink after that

119 is hot! ....last year 112 was our hottest day. You know that's one of my projects i want to do....near the pond in the shade trees...i want to put in a pump drawing from the pond water with an overhead PVC pipe grid...add ever so small nozzles...and make an evaporation cooler...or rather micro water sprayer without the nozzles...just drill a few ultra small holes. When i say pump...it'll probably be...one to three ganged 12v automotive windshield pumps...those i have on hand. Not seeking to made the land muddy underneath the grid...i want 70% evap and 30% ground dampness.
I've already made a few toys...cattle features they love....enjoyable for them and for me to see them use.

I had a fine mist nozzle at the window to the shop on the outside and the exhaust fan drawing air in through it.. really helps!
