Shorthorn News from Australia.

They are used a lot by commercial cattle people and are occasionally used in steer comps more often crossed with Angus and Limousin.
Most of the Shorthorns are found in the western parts of NSW and Queensland states. They had their place in the west and remote parts similar I would say as your Longhorns did in the US.
Not many are seen in coastal areas. I have crossed them with Hereford and South Devon and very much like the roan cross. I also have purchased years ago Brahmans that were graded up from Shorthorn.
We have a Polled Shorthorn breeder just up the road, his cattle are too slab sided and are very showing their doing ability in this dry weather (ie poor)
Hope this answers your question.
Colin
