Has anyone here ever shipped hay? What are the issues with shipping hay? I have received an email asking to ship a few tons of hay (which I have in rolls). They have asked for the total weight and pick up location to provide to their shipper (moreso), and the name and address of where to send payment. How is payment normally done; and, If by check do you hold the shipment until 10 days after the check clears or what. Is there some general agreement form used which defines responsibilities and liabilities?

Unless I know you - cash is king.

Nothing leaves the place until it is paid for.

Close trusted friends, family and a very few other exceptions.

I no longer do paper anything unless it benefits the family and the farm - otherwise it is my way or the highway.

How about the issue of quality. Do you (or anyone else) have the hay tested and provide a copy of the test results before shipping. Suppose they want to reject the shippment saying it was heat damaged, or mildewed, or whatever. Is this simply a buyer risk thing.

It is just like the bull business if you sell something bad everyone will know and you selling will be very limited. Also like a bull I would assume that you would have the product tested so you know how to price your product.
