What age/weight do you sell replacement heifers for those of you who do that and what are they going for in your area open?

if your wanting to sell those heifers as replacements they better be high quality.as well as breed or cross that will make good cows.most sell them as open breedable heifers at 15 months old.todo that they must weigh 750 to 850lbs.an pass a vets palpation.you might get $800 to $900 for top end ready to breed heifers.

We also sell heavy bred heifers in the fall to calf in spring. If your going to raise replacement heifers, you might as well take the time to breed them to a good, low birthweight bull, and sell as bred heifers. a "replacement" heifer could technically be any weaned heifer. The one's that develop a good reputation are the ones that cull hard and only keep the best to sell as bred heifers. Reputation is extremely important when selling bred replacements.

Last year our bred heifers sold around $950, my guess is this year's will be more like $1100. All were commercial brangus bred to a registered brangus bull. Around two years old at calving time.

Usually sold as bred hiefers in November/December after calves are gone and cows have been preg checked. Bred blacks sold for $865 last year. My guess is $1050 for this fall.

I sold my blacks as open in March. Averaged $97 for 680#. Not sure I could feed, breed, sort, and sell them for $375.

I kept the wf hiefers. They are priceless.

Sold some a few weeks ago that weighed 787 avg and they brought 90 a hwt. They were 14-16 months old. Nice Angus commercial heifers.
