Got a load of 3-5 year old black commercial cows average 1200 lbs, 6-8 months bred. Been thinking about putting them in a Superior video sale. Would it be to my benefit to calve them out and sell as pairs, or would I be better off to go ahead and market them as heavy breds now?

Can you run them in the sale and retain if they don't meet your reserve price?

I can put them in a video sale with Tennessee Livestock producers and no sale, but cant no sale on the superior sale.

Tough call then. I guess if you have the hay you might as well calve them out and sell as pairs in the spring.

There might not be a right answer here.

It's gonna be pretty tough whenever you sell them. They had a pretty good sale in Dickson this week and got some cows sold pretty high. More people were looking for them than I would have guessed. Top end young cows bred 6-8 months off a herd of 50 cows in Dickson Monday brought $1500 but I don't know if they would do it again. They had some pairs that were the same kind of cows in the $1800 range.

My biggest worry is if I calve them out and sell in spring and the prices keep dropping I would have been better off to sell them this fall. Then again they could hold steady or go up. :bang: :bang:

You can most certainly no sale on Superior. I did it with a load of bred heifers on the Winnemucca sale. I told my rep my bottom line and he took care of it. Had to pay the no sale fee but you have that anywhere.

Top of the line black 3rd period cows got to $1900 last Saturday here in MO. These were cows that during the high were bought for $3,000 and some as pairs for closer to $3600. Some family had a falling out and said to heck with it and called the barn to come get them.

We held our fall cows and are calving them as we have plenty of grass and hay. We were planning on selling the fall herd out and going all spring but these prices have me spooked.

Thanks for the info, how much is the no sale fee?

The no sale worked out to $10 a head on mine.
