self limiting feed

Help Support CattleToday:

Haven't mixed salt, but after years of gradually starting calves on full feed and trying to prevent bloat, our local coop now has a supplement with some type of filler that limits intake. It may have been around for a while but we just recently started using it. So far so good. Maybe someone else can give you some more info.

Yes we mix in salt/min. while grinding haven't had hardly any problems with bloating. When you say self limiting I assume you mean you feed them 1-2's a day.? Joe

anyone mix salt with ground corn for a self limiting feed for cattle
Won't be much of a feed katy. Need to add some protein to it to make it worth while.

I mix one part corn meal one part cottonseed meal and one part salt for range meal in winter. When grass comes out and piles splatter I use two parts corn meal one part salt since they don't need the protein. Works well with me. I put one pound of aureomycin per fifty pounds
