If you have a desired frame score, let us say that all your cows are fives or five point something, and you want the new ones to be the same size.
Would you use a bull that has a little higher frame (6), keep his smaller daughters and sell his bigger daughters ( more pounds to sell) ?

Or would you use a bull that is a little lower frame (4), and keep his bigger heifers (as you think growtier heifers are healthier and more productive), but loose pounds on the heifers and steers you sell?

How about using bulls that are "fives or five point something" and try to keep the heifers out of the cows that have the best record/qualities for the type cow you are seeking... :???:

C'mon oldtimer, don't go and spoil a perfectly good argument with common sense!

I'd use a 5 frame bull with a pedigree deep with the type I want and keep the heifers I like. A bigger bull will hurt my uniformity in the long run and the calves might not give me more pounds necessarily as if I am shooting for a particular size for a reason, they may need more inputs and might not perform to their genetic potential anyway. A smaller bull, same thing in reverse.

Or, I'd AI my best cows to a bull that's better than I can afford but has the same criteria as above and clean up with the same bull as above (which is what I do in reality) or a "terminal" bull for the extra pounds from heterosis, knowing that his heifers may or may not be feasible for the herd (and I'm planning on selling all or most of them anyway).
