I've got a little 4 acre pasture that's basically dirt, can I\should I start getting it ready to plant this fall now? Will discing it stir up the seed bed and cause me grief in the fall? Can I plant some corn next month or?? What would you do? Thanks in advance.

If you have the time I would just get it disced up really good and just plan to plant in august one less thing to do on the list if it were me. I don't know about corn in texas but my corn was planted in april here.

I don't see a down side. If there are any unwanted grasses the heat plus the discing will probably kill most of it out.

A couple years ago in the real bad drought I turned up some stuff for oats and stuff during the hot summer like this. It did a great job of killing off the regular pasture grass and keeping it clean. What little rain we got soaked right in. Had pretty good patches considering the lack of rain.

Every time I do something like that this time of year it turns into goatweed city the first time we get a little shower on it.

I drove to Austin yesterday on business from Houston. I really feel for you guys. I saw alot of concrete looking pastures and very few cattle up 71.
