Just wondering what opinions are on prices for registered females. When you're looking to buy top quality papered, bred females, at this time of year, what would you be willing to pay? Assuming health and condition is good, and they're a month from calving.

It all depends on who you are buying from, peigrees, quality, etc. When customers ask me what they are worth I tell them and it ussually works this way at auction, that you just double the price of a commercial cow. So if average commercial bred heifers are selling for $1400, then average registered bred heifers should bring around $2800, depending on the sellers reputation of course. Something else that can really change the price is the breed you are getting into. I know that registered Southdevon females don't ussually bring as much as Angus.

This is the height of the bull market in the cattle cycle. Prices have never been higher and probably won't be this high five years from now so if I was buying I would focus on quality rather than the bottom end of any offering. According to Hereford World, in 2005 the average bull sale Hereford bull sold for $3010 (4441.53 lots) and the average female ""LOT"" brought $2911 (4675.75 lots). 9095 Hereford lots brought $27,125,803 in 156 sales last year and Angus was probably even stronger. From what little I can see, a plain jane registered heifer is worth AT LEAST $1500 right "NOW" and the kind of pair that makes you go "WOW" is worth $3200 or MORE.

Here are a few avgs on one of the limousin sales I attended.

Bred Females $3748
Pairs $3500
Open Heifers $2770
