a guy i know has sedan rounds 4 sale.they r 12% protein.i know that nitrate can b a concern with sedan.how much is too much 4 cattle?

In Sudan hay prussic acid is only a concern if the hay has been cut at too young of a stage of growth. Nitrates poisoning is a concern if over fertilized with N and also cut right after a night of heavy frost damage. If it has been baled mature and during the summer I would not be worried, I am feeding a bunch of it right now. I would question the 12% protein however, must have been cut really young or is just really nice stuff to rate that high. It is easy to pull a sample and have the Sudex tested for the nitrates and prussic acid.

I was sort of wondering what sedas was myself. Figured he meant sudan tho...just never seen any around here that would test 12%.

I thought maybe sedan hay was the stuff that grows around the old car that breaks down and is left parked out in the south forty.
