Scottish bull sale (for interest)

Did anyone catch a weight on those? Some of them looked BIG. They also mentioned herd size being large at 30. I'm curious whether they buy into the "moderate" to "small" cow idea. I believe one breeder mentioned specifically in the video that the larger/taller bull was the better "cow maker" compared to his smaller beefier bull. Thanks for posting!

A lot of there cattle are dairy based crosses. They want a big frame cow that is a heavy milker. Almost opposite of us. Most calves are creep fed and they want a very heavy fleshy calf to sell at 12-14 months old.

Most cattle in that part of the world are housed inside for 2-5 months in the winter. It is almost the reverse of our system.

I've always had a soft spot for shorthorns. I've seen some wonderful animals, both from the beef lines and the dairy lines. I've never had any but my father did and I've visited some places that had them long ago. It's a shame they take such a hit at the sale barn. They raise excellent calves and finish early with less feed. Easy keepers...
