Howdy all, I was just wondering what everyone wore in the winter time for headwear and wondered if anyone had any good websites to order them from? Used to be normal in the western stores but are getting harder to find.

I used to wear Kromer Caps. Haven;t found a source of good ones in years. Now I just wear a knit watch cap for the cold.

Expensive for a cap.

Not sure what the correct name is, but I wear something like these--the one labeled FL. I get them at the welding supply store here.

I wear a felt cowboy hat. Warm, and dry. Keeps rain out of your collar as well. Add wrap around ear muffs if it's cold enough.

Back in the day we called those "zero hoods". The model like GL4 was nice to have, the GL5 would have been even nicer. Covers lower on the neck. I still have a couple in a drawer somewhere. I'd probably get them out if I had to be out in the cold all day. You know....like you didn't keep you job if you weren't out in in-climate weather working. I remember the days when I'd wear longjohns, 2 pair of bluejeans, insulated coveralls, and a heavy jacket to start off the mornings.

I have a Stormy Kromer "Rancher". I bought it at Cabela's. It has to be in the teens or lower before I wear it. It is just too warm. If I wear it on a 30 degree day my hair is all wet from sweat. But it sure is nice on those cold days.

I don't know what model mine is but like Dave it's so warm and heavy that i has to be real cold before i can wear it. Mine is lined with gore-tex and heavily quilted also.

I'm bald. Having your head covered makes a big difference. Cold air on a bald head will eventually give you a headache.

When it comes to caps/hats, one size might fit most but it won;t fit me. Every cap/hat I've ever bought from Cabelas has been that way

That's exactly what I do plus I have a fleece neck gaiter( I aint cowboy enough for a wildrag)
I pull the gaiter up over my mouth and nose when it's real cold, but it's a pain when you have a dip and have to pull it down to spit and then pull it back up and readjust it

I used to do that but now my glasses steam up so bad I can't see. Same problem with a face mask during turkey season

They look like the old hard hat liners they used to give us on the job in winter months. The two bottom ones look like welding caps.
