Sciatica

Great news.....we have one 'unpinched' sciatic nerve

My mom started feeling better on Wednesday afternoon and by Thursday morning was walking normally again. She does have osteoporosis and arthritis but that is another matter that we have to deal with in the future :cry2: .

I rigged an infra red lamp above her bed, she allowed her muscles to warm up and then did the stretching exercises. I also secured a ladder and let her step up it and then hang for as long as she could...her feet were about an inch from the ground so she felt quite safe. We will never know what she did to 'unpinch' the nerve, perhaps a combination of your suggested exercises but thanks all :D

Well after many stretchers and exercises there is no improvement. My mom is scheduled to see a neurosurgeon on Thursday for a possible MRI but according to X-rays taken today it would seem that the nerve is being pinched in the back....possible osteoporosis.
It is the middle of winter here and I managed to find a heated pool not too far away but she won't hear of it, in fact it would seem that she would prefer to just lie down the whole day :help: . I think I will try the plastic wrap tonight, think she will let me? I would try the come-along but she was horrified . I will buy a ball tomorrow when I'm in town.

Thanks for the suggestions :D
Her back problem's will be back your mom just got a visit this time.
Having degenerative disc disease I have had fun on this journey. Currently have 7 disc that are gone.
There is a lot of option's 70% of all back surgeries result in more surgeries.
You should see a neurologist first all surgeon's want to do is cut.
There is nerve block's, physical therapy, they can kill the nerve causing the pain and surgery.
There is a new procedure that seems to be real promising according to my doctor called the X stop.

I'm hoping that you are wrong CB but logic tells me differently. She went to a neurosurgeon on Thursday and also had a MRI, they are collating results and we should know soon.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties, perhaps this latest technology X stop will be benificial to you. I will have to find out if the procedure is being used here yet. Thanks

I ain't got no problem's girl except trying to stay out of the smoking section.
I don't like burnt bisquit's.
The minute we are concieved our DNA is written. Nothing we do about it .
Always said I was my grandma's favorite she had gall bladder disease, diabetes and degenerative disc disease.
I got all three, other cousin's just got one or two on her list. So I had to be her favorite right?

Don't feel bad Caustic I got all that from my Mother along with a bad disposition :frowns:

Have taken up yoga for stretching and core development. Already know the genetic issues will find me soon enough, so trying to head off what I can. My sciatica issues came from pregnancy, and still only occur if I am carrying weight wrong, but let me carry a gallon of milk with a lazy back lean and I lose feeling straight down both legs. Some things are unavoidable, but never underestimate working your body and feeding it well. Another reminder that your grandparents knew more than you thought.
