a average weaning weight of a 1000. pds at 205 days.... wonder how long they will last in the cowherd pushed to he&% wont have it

How much did it cost in creep feed and extra feed for the cows to get those weights?

I'm interested in what other "Angus" people think of Schaff cattle; and numbers like these.
im more interested in what non biased ''ANGUS'' folk think

I wouldn't call myself non biased or even unbiased but the feed bill on those cattle must be off the chart.
:cowboy:

Well fed and well marketed cattle attract a lot of attention because they look sooooo good, and if you are interested in cattle that have "a need for feed" it looks like a good place to go. Cattle that do the most on the most are not my personal preference, from a margin standpoint my preference is cattle that have been selected for the ability to do the most on the least.

Evidently it works as they have been in the business for over 100 years and have the best sale in the country. Would I creep feed that hard? No, and most won't, but when they have been doing it this long and have sales that average continually over $5000 on 500 bulls, something is clicking. I have seen the bulls and been to the sale, they are not just a bunch of fat bulls. They are very good, well made, bulls that seem sound. They have a good set of cows as well. Maybe the best uddered herd I have ever seen.

I wonder what the bulls look like after running on 320 acres of hills & rocks chasing 40-50 cows with only grass to eat.

I have seen a handful of them in western ND in August and they looked as good or better than other bulls running in the same pastures. Now, maybe they aren't all like that, but that is what I have seen.

If they can reach 1,000 # at 205 days then theoretically they would be selling 1,200 # steers for slaughter at 9 months old????

yep... but for a '''ANGUS''' to get to that weight even with creep is pretty impressive... but not knowing whats in the woodpile

I think that's the issue. Creep is certainly a factor, but how many of us could add 300 lbs onto our wean weights by creep feeding?

My guess is they are pushing feed to the cows also.

Not very many cattle folks can afford to have their cows and calves on full feed just to obtain a 1,000 # 205 weight.
