So I decided that I was done with bottle calves. Luck ran out with the last two not being able to fight off scours. Now my 9 day old angus heifer suffering from the same thing. Had the vet out last night and he diagnosed her with e coli. He gave her a shot of baytril. The mama cow 's udder looked a little fuller than usual tonight. Calf is still a little wobbly in the back end when she walks. Question is: is the baytril a "one hitter quitter " drug or does it usually take more than one dose? My problem being noone is here during the day to watch if she is nursing or not. It's dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home now. Other than watching her udder and hunting for her stools in the dark, how can I tell if she is getting enough to eat? I thought that I disinfected the stalls very well, but could there be something lingering in there? Please advise.
