I had a yearling colt that somehow got a very severe cut on her front leg, straight down the "knee", a vet had already come and stitched it up but said it wouldn't hold most likely. It was very deep (almost to the bone) and about 12 inches long, sure enough she blew the stitches out and it started to get worse despite the antibiotic shots, antiseptic spray etc. the vet had me doing on a daily basis. On Thursday she was just tired of me messing with it and gave me a real good head but, knocked me to my knees, (I saw alot of stars) so I called the vet to come and sedate her to clean it up. After he saw how bad it was he said she had totally severed the tendon, it was sticking out and every time she bumped it it would bleed just terrible. He said she would always have a large knee and may never be able to be ridden, (she was dragging her foot forward) so we decided to have her put to sleep. It was hard, but we knew it was for the best, she was in pain and it was going to be a long time of pain/healing. I searched the pasture over and over and never did find what she cut it on.
Granted we had only paid $25 for her a year ago but she had become part of our "family" and we loved her. So Friday was a sad day at our home,
