I usually wait til mid October or so to plant ryegrass. But I guess the drought has got me paranoid.Ive got a decent chance of rain for the next week .So if I get rain I thought about going ahead and doing it now .It will be overseeded on bahia.Or should I still wait until next month.Temps in the 90's are still possible though its been in the low to mid 80's lately.Mabye this drought has me thinking too much but at this point I'd love to see some green grass. What do y'all think.

it IS cold at night. it was friggin 73 night before last. i had my longsleeve tshirt on and i had to go get some socks to put on.

I hear ya Beefy. It was 59 the other morning at 6am and I turned on the heat in my truck.I put on my socks too and would have put on shoes if I had any.If my cousin aint pregnant with my baby and I dont have to pay that fella from Colorado to teach me to read and write I'm gonna get me some of them there shoes. Then me and my mule will break the ground a little and get that ryegrass planted.

i have planted rye before in september with good results. was grazing it soon too. assuming we get adequate rainfall along and along you'd probably fair well. there are usually some pretty warm days in october...usually. if i was planting on broken ground i'd go ahead and do it but i dont know about overseeding it. we wont be harvesting for another month and then the cows will be turned in those fields for several weeks before i plant those. i too am getting anxious to overseed a bermuda pasture but its too dry for me to even think about.

If you plant rye now in Fla or Ga you risk having it get burned up IMHO. The rains might make it jump but just a couple scalding days and it will be toast. IF IT were me, I would wait until mid to late October.

I planted rye in September the last two years and was real happy with the results. This year I'm just behind and it's gonna be mid october before I can get it in the ground.

Well my question turned out to be pointless. My weeks worth of rain chances went away.Got another good ole high pressure deal dominating.Temps have gone back to the 90's.I'll be waiting until Oct. anyway. Not that its gonna rain then either.I hate high pressure.
