Well I guess the bit of cool weather has got these S.E. Texas coastal deer hot to trot...Lol , I almost mowed a six point this morning. He had that nose to the ground and neck all swelled up. Ive seen em start early here, but never this early.

I haven't notice the deer rutting yet, but the elk are sure going after it full force. The youngest son got a 7x5 bull last week with a bow. He came right in to a cow call. And was busy chasing off a satellite bull that he must have thought was stealing his cows. He didn't run off at the first shot. The son got three arrows into him. Two double lung shots and a liver shot. He didn't go far.

I lease my hunting rights out, but I maintain the feeders and collect pictures off the game cameras for the guy. About a week and a half it was like the hole deer population flipped. I started getting pics of a whole different set of bucks. Three well over 160 btw.

They are not rutting here yet as the buck's are still running together.
I have five on camera two are mock fighting it is getting close.
I am planning on sitting my stand tomorrow and the next day just to see what is going on.
I know we have a bumper acorn crop and the cat squirrel's are tearing up the white oak's already.
Timber rattlers are super active already we are going to have an early winter.
Temp's predicted tonight will tie the record set in 1981 here and that was one bitter cold winter.

Starting in October it was suppose to be cooler and wetter than usual. Looks like the signs point that way.

I have two plots at one place disked up ready to go. Have to do at least one more across the highway. Hoping to plant oats end of this month right before a big rain. :D

The rut is different everywhere you go. Use to hunt around Disney World, Reedey Creek area of central Fl. The bucks are still in velvet in Oct. and rut in Feb-March. This use to all happens in less than a 40 mile radius.

Are you guys serious? They haven't even knocked the velvet off their horns here yet. Our deer rut from January through February.

HC had it right for this area seen a huge 8 pointer chasing a doe across the pasture today.
Look's like if you want a nice buck here better get him in bow season starting the 29 th or in late Black Powder season.
Afraid that gun season is going to require a good book.
