In some of the Hereford posts some of you talked about the Royal Gorge, CO area. We spent a few days in CO in 2008 and traveled some of the backroads around Royal Gorge. We left Royal Gorge on Hwy 9, then on Hwy 11 to Cripple Creek, and from there to Colorado Springs. Were we near any of the ranches you mention? We traveled through some area where we went across cattle crossings in the roads and cows were walking on the road. That is unheard of in the east. Wonderful trip with no certain place to see each day and stopped each night wherever we found a motel.

Good morning. We spent a few years going to Monarch skiing. They call that area the " banana belt." I suppose it's a little warmer
in that valley by the river at times. It sure is pretty there even when its 7 degrees outside......;) I hear the brown trout bite can
be as good as anywhere there on the Arkansas River. I suppose that area has enough appeal to me that if I ever left heaven er Texas I
might consider that area. Thanks for your post. Peace.

Stay right where you are Kingfisher. There's one thing for sure we never run out of and that's Texans :lol2:

Nah just kidding. Ya'll come on up here anytime you like. I live in that little town in the banana belt and you are right it's a great place. There's just two things ya need to know. If you move here to retire bring lots of money cuz a trailer house in a park will cost you what a 5 bedroom 3 bath house costs in Texas. and.....if you move here to work you better bring your job with you.

BTW if you ate a hamburger at Monarch I sold it. I have sold all the food there for close to 20 years. Thanks for your business :tiphat:

One other thing. My son manages the Flyfishing shop in Salida. So you come winter or summer we gotcha covered.

Heck if I moved up there I guess I'd just have to throw up a pup tent and be a squatter. Couldn't even afford a nice used "single wide". :lol2: Maybe 3way would let me have some of those "jerky burgers" he makes from those tough old packers he's a running out there.

I was in Monarch a few years ago. Me and two of my young sons rode a chair lift up to the summit of an 11000+ ft mountain on the continental divide there. Pretty spectacular. Didn't eat anything in Monarch but spent the night in Gunnison and ate supper there. Don't remember what.

I believe I can find a place for you to squat. I might also know the location of an establishment or two that serve hard cider, that we might visit. Just be sure and bring bail money we will leave it with the wife....just in case.

Never been there but since 3way's wife will hold bail money it sounds like something we need to put on the agenda. Might want to make sure vehicle has GPS also.
