Round baler belts

Why do I replace them? And how do I know that the belts are in a condition that they need to be replaced?
When they break, generally.

Unless they're really old and visibly cracked or rotted, preemptive replacement is usually not necessary.
Unless you get into baling some really trashy stuff, it's usually the ends were they are joined that go bad. If the rest of the belt is in good shape, I just wack off about 6 inches from each end and splice in a new section, that also has the advantage of getting the stretch out of them so they are back to the the right length
