I have chalked up AI service on two heifers and three cows at Fire Sweep Simmental Ranch. Anna, Hope, Kitty, Joy and Gem. I am 4 for 5 on my AI attempts and I think I stuck Kitty but after 54 days she showed open. Kris will never give me credit so I will accept the 80% success rate on my traveling AI services. A tidbit, the reproductive tracts on the three cows were easily defined. In each of the cows, the cervix, uterus, and horns of the uterus were distinct during palpation. Makes it easy to hit the sweet spot when the semen is deposited.

I first saw Ronnie at the 2014 NJSA Nationals in Louisville.

I bought Ronnie from Fire Sweep in April. She was pregnant via ET. On Friday evening, I saw her in labor. I checked, the two feet and head were in position. I thought the calf seemed large. I put a halter on her and brought her up to the facility. I tied her loosely to a post. I might have jumped the gun, but I gave her some assistance. The calf is a bull and weighed 85 pounds. I told Kris not to sell me anymore heifers carrying big block-headed calves. Five pounds more than Kris counseled me to expect, I don’t know why but maybe my place sits in the Bluegrass Triangle. My calves continue to average about 90 pounds no matter how good the CE.

Brought her to the farm in April. She did well on all my grass.

After delivery (she does not look much different, especially for a heifer)

Good to hear Ron!
That calf is a genetic jewel. And you must live in the "bluegrass triangle" (like bermuda triangle), because the dam of that calf has 96 calves registered with the ASA, and none of the Dream On sired calves were ever more than 80 pounds!
That calf is a Dream On x LBR Right Dream H830 - the same dam that is in some great simmental bulls pedigrees, (like HC Hummer).
Here is a picture of the dam of that embryo:

I picked up those embryos (2) at the Lazy H dispersal sale a few years ago, and put one in Ronnie and one in an older recip I have here. They were placed just two days apart, but Ronnie went early because my recip here is not due until October 31st. That will be the test of the birth weights! Flush mates, just days apart, but the recips fed in two different environments. My recip SHOULD have a larger calf, since she has raised 7 calves herself already, however I suspect that it will be in the 70's like the genetics tell me, which should prove that you do live in the "bluegrass triangle"..... You have too few cows, on too good of grass, and likely give a few too many treats to those girls you love so much!!!!
By the way, Fire Sweep would be interested in feeding out that bull for you and selling it if it turns out like the genetics tell me it will. We are hoping our embryo is a red heifer.... but knowing our luck with embryos it too will be a black bull!

Sounds good to me! Name brand sells! I will post a better picture of the calf. He is super docile. I have played with him and mom likes having a babysitter. :D

Here is the EPD's of that bull calf Ron, at least the 4 that make the top 10% of the breed!
EPD
CE 15.0
Brth -0.7
MCE 14.7
API 142.1
TI 68.2 (not in the top 10%, but still not bad)

Nice calf and looks like a good momma.

I must live in the bluegrass triangle too.. it's rare I see any calf under 80 lbs, and now with 3 different bulls several families of cows always has 120+ lb calves

This is my other Fire Sweep Heifer. Not too bad for a 65 year old gentleman either. :D
That is what a clean Holy Life will do for you. I have one weakness. Wine. Well two. Women!

Ron, when someone calls me a gentleman I look over my shoulder to see who they are talking too.
Well done with the strike rate inseminating Ron. I find it is not the easiest thing to do at a different place to mine, just little things like the angle the crush is at, the preparation area and the feed they are on, it all throws me. Guess I am just getting old and too set in my ways.

Glad to see you back Ron. I was wandering about you just the other day. I will have to look this back up when i get home next week so i can look at the pictures on the computor but Im sure they are good looking girls based on what Ive seen from yours and Fire Sweeps cows in the past.

Congrats Ron on your AI success!
The heifer and calf are looking awesome. And yes, you are a fine looking specimen yourself! :cboy:
I think that you are probably "a hard keeper" though with that body score. But it looks like you still have a "full mouth". Maybe a little Ivomec would do the trick. :) I don't think it's "hardware" because you are still pretty active and I don't see any signs of distress.
