Ring Worm

Ring Worm can ring worm be carried from an empty barn to new cattle? I sold my calfs and I am going to buy more but I would like to know if ring worm will will exist in an empty barn.Thanks

If the cattle rubbed on anything in the barn, its a good chance the ringworm fungus will now be in the barn. Most things I've read say that it takes about a year for the fungus to go away. I wouldn't worry much about it as even if the fungus is in the barn, it doesn't mean another batch of animals will catch it. Even if they do, it simply looks bad. It doesn't hurt anything.

You can clean the barn and pens with an Iodine bath if you want. That would eliminate the fungus.

We use a 10% bleach solution and spray the rails, gates walls...every place that can be reached by the animals. We also do this to the claving pens between births. Let sit for a day and wash with water. Can't remember when we last had a case of scours and the bull with the worm on his tail was the only case we've had in years. Dmc

Bleach and iodine worked real good for me. Gutted barn and cleaned everything. Lot of work, but atleast there has been no ring worm cases in my herd for over 15 years now.
