I was cutting one of the pastures today when I started feeling a vibration coming out of my 15 foot rhino "bushog" . It seemed worse when I turned the tractor to my right. After checking it out I noticed it was leaking oil aroung one of the seals on the right side. Will a leaking seal cause a vibration or do you think it is something else causing the problem?
I read the manual and it talks about a bent shaft causing a vibration but doesnt mention a seal causing it. Also the gear oil is black in that box and it is clean it all the others. thanks

When turning one direction is worse than the other that sounds like pto drive line u joints. But the leaking seal might be caused by a bearing failure on that shaft. Bearing failure will cause vibration.

you have a few things that need replacing on your shredder.you need to replace the seals before you burn a gearbox up.an then replace the bad bearing.sounds like you may have bent an damaged the U-joint as well.

Could be a bent shaft caused your seal to leak. I'd go with the PTO.

Don't know ain't there. Let us know.

A leaking seal is not the problem, it is a symptom of the other problems that you have. What ever you do, don't keep using this until you find and correct the problem. With that seal leaking, you'll burn up or break something quick. Then, it gets expensive.

You most likely have a bad bearing causing the seal to fail. Shafts that short most likely will not bend, but break. It will cause more repair if not fixed immedatly.

It was still under warranty so I took it to the john deere place. They took the gear box apart and said the only thing they could find wrong was the bad seal. They said they are going to put in the new seal and then look for the vibration. Why cant I ever have an easy problem to fix?

The john deere place said that they think the problem was a stopped up oil vent screw on top of the gearbox. They said they think the oil in the gearbox overheated and could not go out the vent so it burst through the seal. I have just added the vent screw to things I need to check before I start cutting each day.

I have had more problems with my Rhino than I want to remember. First the rear axle weld broke and the wheel fell off. Then the blade pan fell off and went sailing 30 ft. towards some cows - had to replace the pan, and then this week a gear box seal went out. What next? I do know what I will not buy again. :tiphat:
