As most of ya'll that played the "when will she calve" game know, I took off a few days to bow hunt deer. I made my annual pilgrimage to Schuyler County , Illinois to bow hunt the wiley whitetail on property I lease near Rushville. I am a former Illinois resident and bought a lifetime hunting license several years ago before moving back to Tennessee. This makes hunting there cost effective ;-)

Results: Monday afternoon I took a nice 8 point that dressed out at 180 pounds. Perfect 15 yard double lung hit.

Tuesday afternoon I took a larger 9 point that dressed just over 200 pounds. Another perfect double lung hit at 22 yards.

I have officially tagged out on Illinois bucks. I will post pics on Monday when I have access to a faster puter.

Where at down there did you hunt? I know quite a few people in that area. Also my mother-in-law was born at Camden.

I am in with 5 other guys. All from Illinois. We lease 750 acres about 7 miles north of Rushville, Illinois.

Nice job Hoss. Bow hunting is the best challenge of all.

Bow hunting is about all the hunting I do anymore. Big whitetails are my favorite even though I have taken elk, moose, mule deer, boar and black bears. The two this week are my 54th and 55th bow killed whitetails but who's counting

Correct if you are a real bow hunter, unless you are a primative archer might as well use a gun.

Real bow hunters hunt with a bow and arrow......regardless if it is a compound or longbow / recurve. The same rules apply. You must get close to the animal, use scent control (wind direction etc.) and get within 30 yards to be effective and make a clean kill. None of this has changed since "primitive" times. With the exception of a few recurve shooters that I have met, most recurve / long bow shooters can't hit the broad side of a barn from inside it. They like to brag about how well they shoot and they leave pin cushion deer a running around the woods. The bottom line is that ALL bow choices will effectively kill deer. The compound leaves less room for error and that equates to less wounded deer and cleaner, more humane kills.

Ah you answered my question you are not a real bow hunter. Without someone making your bow's, arrows, strings and lets not forget sight's and release's you would have to set at home and watch tv.
People that use compounds are such fake's.

I guess you walk from your home to your hunting area and drag the deer back........or do you drive there in your modern pick-up and load the deer up? Do you wear animal hides instead of camo when you hunt? Do you use steel arrow heads? Do you wear moccasins intead of boots? Do you gut and skin your animal with a stone edged knife? If you do not do these things you are not a "real" bowhunter.

Congrats, Hoss. Bowhunting is a challenge no matter what game you chase. That's why I like it.

What's your rig?

I have a 2002 Hoyt Havotec and a 2004 Hoyt Cybertec. I shoot Axis arrows tipped with Montecs. I really like those cut on contact blades.
