I'm thinking of keeping back some replacements this year. My main herd is anywhere from 3/4 to 1/2 brahman and are mostly red in color. I'm considering going back with a red angus because as Caustic says "with red you have more options". I'm wanting to get to a cow that has a 1/4 to 3/8s brahman. Any thoughts on the subject.

Your making your own "Red Brangus" be hard to beat and much cheaper than buying them as red Brangus are higher than black around here.

There's some opinion around that red angus is much more pure than black. If I were looking to buy, you'd have my interest.

That's my thoughts that with the red angus I could raise me some awesome replacement cows and then sale some also.

Are your cows Braford's? Reason I ask you would have to be careful and not get to much frame on the replacements.
3 way cross calves could make some heifers way to big. I'm looking for a 1000 pound cow to raise a 500 pound calf in 5 months not a 1500 pound one to do it in the same time. Just something to think about.

A few are bradfords but most of them are just brahman crosses. I understand where your coming from I have the same fear myself best thing I can think to do is cull hard!

i first crossed santa-gertrudis with my whole herd of angus hereford crosses, now i cross red angus to any that are at least half gerts & gert to any less than half gert. makes a real good cross. red angus keeps the frame smaller & meatier, gert gives more lenght & less disease problems

Yep, got my vote... for sure put red angus on your high % brahmans. then once you have a nice batch of red angus sired heifers/cows built up you could breed them to gert., would make a nice little rotation and give you the % BR you want. I'd buy some heifers from ya!
