It has dragged on and getting old, the wind is a special kind of cold. I had a lot of hay up, but the last 3-4 weeks some piles have disappeared. I am ready for spring. Next week looks better, days getting longer daylight. You are warmer than we are... we haven't had any kind of melting .... no water or mud...
Maybe next week...![]()

I know some folks currently playing that game with 125 purchased heifers. I sure hope it works for them ....margins are way too close for my comfort. In 2013 to 2016 I bought heifers this time of the year which I bred in the spring and sold in the fall as bred heifers. On Thursday a great looking draft of reputation heifers sold. 70 head of great heifers the right size, triple vaccinated, and long time weaned. I forget the exact weight and price per pound. But the 70 head cost a little over $200,000. I later did the math on the cost to buy, feed, breed, and sell in the fall. It came out on the good side but not by that much.
Yep. I know the math of that program. Buy 70 heifers. 10 will fail to breed. To get top dollar you sell a truck load on the video.. A truck load of 1,000 lb heifers is 50 head, That leaves 10 head of cut outs which sell for less at a local sale. The cut outs will be the smallest ugly ones. At $4,000 a head for the 50 you are just short of the purchase price of the 70 I watched sell. That leaves the other 20 to pay for the feed, breeding, vaccinations, fuel, and sale commission. Not a lot of profit for risking a lot of money.I know some folks currently playing that game with 125 purchased heifers. I sure hope it works for them ....margins are way too close for my comfort.
