Red River Crabgrass

I planted a 20 acre patch in RRCG 2 years ago and am very pleased with it. I think I will plant a half section in it next year. It is pretty expensive but well worth it. Also it outperformed my crappy world feeder bermuda grass (it sucks!!!!!).

Is RRCG still only sold by that fella up in Okla. named Dalrymple and/or Elstel Farms ( or some similar name ) or is now available through most seed suppliers?

I assume you pull your cows off in fall to allow it to re-seed and if so, approximately when do you do that, and in which part of the state is Osage county located? Can you give us a brief summary of your grazing management & fertlization practices for the RRCG? Ever try to hay it? How does it perform in lower, wetter areas (if you have any such areas)? I looked into it about 10 years ago and what I read was mostly quite favorable, but I knew of nobody in my area that had tried it. Was tempted to try a test patch of 5 or 10 acres but it seemed a bit pricey at the time. But he*l, when you see Bahia selling for almost $150 a bag perhaps the RRCG isn't that much after all. What's it sell for these days?

That's not hard to do. From everything I've read (even from the company that sells it) World Feeder Bermuda is the snake oil of the bermudagrass world. I've read a lot of research on it and it can't even compete with common in most areas. There used to be a lot of hype about it back about ten years ago I guess and I wrote them for information on it. Their info said that it had to be planted from their own personal seedstock in OK and for it to perform as advertised it had to be planted according to their specific instructions and fertilized with their 'proprietary blend' of micronutrients and fertilizers. I smelled a rat. Sure enough, read any A&M research and it's always at the bottom of the list. Definitely not worth the mondo$$$ required to 'acquire' their touted technology:)

We graze out crabgrass in old fields here works pretty well. Not specifically RRCG but the ordinary field weed is still ok. Good luck! OL JR :)

I got it at the Enid farm show from ?Estel Seed? I am looking for their card and will post once I find. We are located in North east-central OK. I use it for hay and fertilize like my soil samples tell me. I have a friend who put in 30+ acres this year and he said he got 3 ton an acre. Most places around here are making 1/2 to 1 ton. I will bale mine in a coupla weeks and tell yall what it makes. when I put it in i subsoiled, plowed, disced, disced, fieldcultivated, cultipacked and then planted. It is located on the upper edge of a riverbottom field that I plant in alfalfa.

I like crabgrass hay. It responds well to nitrogen and makes great cow feed. It does not do well with nights less than 70 degrees so the season is shorter than others are.
It is very hard to dry. I must have hot sun and fluff it after one good day drying. So it takes most of 3 days in the hot sun to dry. If it is hot and cloudy, it will take at least another day to dry. Where I can cut bermudagrass one morning and fluff that evening and roll the next evening.

Can y’all tell a difference in Red River and the volunteer kind that I have in my hay fields?

We have planted RR Crabgrass 2 times and never got a stand. This second time I had some seed left over, put it on a wet paper towel in a glass and it all sprouted.
We have volunteer crabgrass growing in the gravel around the barn, in a couple small lots that get trampled up regularly, outside the doorway of the most heavily used door of the barn, etc. But we can't get the blasted stuff to grow where we planted it.
