whould a red Chiangus bull be a good choice for Shorthorn x Hereford cows or should i look for another breed

this post could not be much less vague.

we dont know what you are trying to do. i doubt many have ever seen a "red chiangus bull" and especially havent seen their offspring. and the chances of knowing what a crossbred bull like that will do on crossbred cows is even more unlikely.

if you just want some calves, he will probably do it. as for predictability, you are hoping for a lot.

Unless it's a red angus or a black angus with a red gene, in the angus part of the equation, you won't find a red chiangus. I've never seen or heard of one.

Why not use a crossbred bull on crossbred cows?

If there were different breeds, your hybrid vigor would be higher. MARC research time and time again has proven that using crossbred/hybrid bulls can be done.

From what I've read, and from personal experience, you won't get much consistency in the calves. And are you sure about the hybrid vigor when 4 or more breeds are involved?

I don't have a problem with using a crossbred bull if it is made up of two solid breeds. But when you throw a colored breed or three more breeds in the mix, you will lost consistency in the calves. Like the famous mongrel herd of what-is-her-name. That herd was a disastrous.

Red ChiAngus bull on Devon cows should be fine since the calves will come out red anyways.
