So my neighbor has a red angus bull that I was going to borrow What is your experience red bull over black cows?

Or he has a brangus bull that Is a option to.

Don’t know where you’re at but black calves bring more at our sale barn . Red angus are good cattle but your calves could be red or black . I’d go with the brangus myself .

Please put a general location in your profile. It could have a bearing on the advice given.

Its 106f at this location. I have a Jersey cow in heat in the corral but the lease Angus bull is still laying in the shade down by the creek in pasture 3, just like he was yesterday at 110f. Maybe they work at night. They are not fence lined even at 800 volts electric fence so I can AI her to Jersey bull in 3 weeks.
Bulls are forces of nature, no telling what they will try to do. It looks to me like back hides suffer in the heat.

If you have market for red carriers then you can use the red Angus. But keeping even black heifers from the bull will give you hidden red carriers and you'll have reds pop up in future if your future bulls throw reds.
Some people don't want red carriers

The where are you at matters in this question. In some areas the few red calves would hurt you and any ear for the Brangus wont hurt you. Here the reverse is true. Good Red Angus calves sell just as good as the black ones but even the hint of ear would cost you. So I will echo those wondering where you are located.

Dave is right. Location matters. If you sell at the stockyards at OKC, color matters very little. Black is better, just not like it is in other places. On the other hand, eared cattle of any color will take a hit in the fall and winter. I would run the red angus and not worry about it.

Yes what? Lol. Which is better, the red angus bull or the brangus? I honestly wouldn’t care where I was located, if the red angus bull is a far superior animal and not to mention I had black cows I would be going with that bull. Especially with the market the way it is right now.

I run a herd of red angus cows and use a black angus bull so I am fully aware of the black hide thing but I wouldn’t use an inferior bull just to get black calves. Especially if my cows were black. I’d deal with possibility of having a few red calves here and there.

Now if the brangus is comparable and you like him, go for it.

Sorry I should have worded it better . Yes I'm was just trying figure out what bull would be the best

Picture of the brangus. sorry for the bad picture . More info on the red angus he said that the bull came from registered lines but he did not get the paperwork

Doesn’t look like a bad bull to me from what I can tell by the picture.
