Rectal prolapse - very pregnant

This heifer should calve any day now. She's spent a lot of time this afternoon lying on her side, head down. Checking on her I noticed the small prolapse. Is this normal when laying down? She hasn't gotten up so I'm not sure if it will go back in.

Yes. Lot of pressure in there. No big deal. I hate when its -30 and its hanging out, but not much you can do about it.

Once she stands it will drop back in.

You been feeding her pretty heavy ?? I'd keep a check on her.but wouldn't get her in the chute unless you have to..

I don't worry unless it pops out about the size of a grapefruit, which earns her a spot on the cull list.

Thanks folks. It was back in tonight when I checked on her, on her feet. I was hoping she'd calve today as it was a beautiful 55 and sunny here in Michigan. We're in for highs in the 20's and lake effect snow starting Wednesday.

That is when she will calve! The change in pressure will induce her.
