I was wondering if they sell a record type book, too keep your records! Or do you just get a pad and right down each cow? I have wondered about this and what info should be written down? If the make a record book, where can i pick when up at?

Before we went to cattlesoft on the computer we used the form from Missouri U. I don;t remember what the back side has on it.

I would strongly urge everyone to back up your records, and store a copy somewhere besides your house. I always kept a couple copies especially a backup of electronic records. I lost my home, farm buildings, and equipment to a tornado. It made a difficult situation even worse. Losing the calving records was worse than losing the tax records. The feed store knows how much you spent, not knowing when a cow bred back is a real pain. I now make two paper copies and two electronic copies. One is at my house the other I store off farm.

You can probably get a little calving record book from your local ag store . All the ones here give them out at the tills during calving season. I use 3 hard copies and then enter everything onto my breed association site and my own cattle software for the accountant. By the time I am done I have everything pretty much memorized .

We started keeping 2 books after hubby dumped his shirt in the laundry basket and I washed his calf book. Luckily he had a habit of writing on the calender the date the cow that calved and the sex of the calf.
We also use Ranch Manager on my computor. I back everything up on CD's and those are stored in the safe.
