Next time someone here asks the eternal questionWhy can't we discuss politics, take a little stroll over to Ranchers Net and read the political section. It is nasty, viscious, and very partisan. I read over 30 threads and it's mostly mud slinging and downright garbage. The amazing thing I found is people who appear here to be very reasonable when they are turned loose over there turn into complete jerks.

So if ya wanna fight about politics take Dun's advice and go to Ranchers net. You will find every and any kind of fight you want.

I would prefer discussion over verbal abuse. I got into it once on Ranchers and I don't intent to return. I do lurk there on occasion. There has to be a happy medium.

I've been on ranchers enough to know exactly what 3 way is talking about, the way some people change when turned loose . Like Lammie, I enjoy a more organized and respectful debate . I think I'll just stay here and talk about cattle .

Good post 3 way !

yea...makes me wonder how they can even talk cattle civil like, with each other afterwards ;-)

They can't...that's why I try to stay out of topics with a majority of those ranchers when they are posting here (altho there are times that I fail miserably at that). Like Lammie said, it's not worth the verbal abuse, well usually. :?

Always amazes me that people have such a hard time having a reasonable discussion about things that they disagree about. Seems that some people can't listen to one of their ideas attacked without taking it as personal. I always see being proven wrong as an opportunity to learn, not a personal attack. My politics are a very unusual mix of mostly conservative with a couple of liberal concepts mixed in. Why? Because I've looked at many issues and made an educated decision about how I feel about it. Convince me I'm wrong and I'll change my mind. Calling me an a-hole because of my beliefs won't change my mind about anything but you.

I have a couple of friends who are about as politically different from me as any humans could be. We are able to drink a few beers and talk about the election and political process without becoming nasty with each other or being offended that the whole world doesn't think like we do. Some day we might vote for the same candidate, but I doubt it :)

Most career politicans would be out of a job if the people of this country could talk politics politely.
Good observation. Add in radio talk shows, cable news nets, thousands of newspapers and hundreds of websites and you can see that civil discourse about politics would cause massive unemployment.

Well 3 way that is kind of a given with all the mud slinging that goes on over breeds of cattle and what a bull should look like I can't even imagine agreeing over politics. :P

I must admit though I do read the political forum over there quite a bit lately ,especially with the election coming up so soon. To say the least it is very entertaining ,however I still haven't learnt anything useful from anyone on there. I can not wait to find out the outcome in a couple of months. Whatever it is is will make history for the USA.

Dang! John 250 i guess for the sake of saving jobs in America we must fight on!!

It really is not a pretty picture. When you are talking POTUS, decisions are made by each voter in a "no holds barred" environment. Political speech is a primary category of "free speech". If bubba is running against you for commissioner, you can relate that bubba likes goats more than he should and it is politcal speech. No libel, even if bubba is above reproach in his life.
Most of us, and I include myself, gag on this kind of stuff. I hate the nastiness. Usually, when a candidate slings mud, it ends up back on him.
Still, the fight is a part of us. I like it. Anyone who gets POTUS earns it. As it should be.

I don't even listen to them anymore. Gets my blood up and gives me a headache. Shawn and Rush are just liberals anyhow. ;-)

Being of reasonably sound mind and slowly decreasing body soundness...lol...

I totally avoid political or religious discussions with anyone. Those that try to infuse their opinions and beliefs on someone else are basically radical, overpowering, perhaps poor self-concept, and have either an axe to grind or a "manifesto" to infiltrate your mind with...

I keep my religious beliefs and political opinions to myself...no one else gives a hoot about your comments, so why waste precious brain cells and neurotransmitter chemical connections.
