I'm sure it happens but in all my years of fooling with cattle I've never seen a calf nurse with mom lying down . 🤔

This is her grandma the year before when she had twins... sleep while you can.. darned death nap!

I'll see it occasionally with a cow that just too dang tired to get up or she was already sleeping & her calf spied DINNER just sticking out there. That said, we had a down cow probably 10 years ago and that's how she nursed her calf. We didn't dare attempt nursing when she was in the hip lift, but once we let her back down she'd roll to her side and her calf would go at it.
