We had the 2nd driest year on record. All months were lower than average. Normal is 39.26 and we received 24.87.

We had good crops due to good soil and good subsoil moisture going in to the crop year. Going into the new year with a lot less in reserve. Could be an interesting new year.

How did your area hold up in the moisture department?
 
I tried googling what our precip was for 2025 twice. Never found an answer. We average about 12 inches a year. My guess is we were about average. I did find one thing which was a graph. It showed what I thought. We had more rain events in November and December than we did last spring.
 
The only real precipitation we received in all of 2025 came in June, July and August. Not good for cool season grass country. We are back in D1 drought, but there isn't a bit of moisture in the ground. Second year in a row we can dig post holes on New Year's Day. Usually have 3-6" of frost in the ground by now. Today was 60* and pretty nice for working outside.
 
I'm further north of @kenny thomas . We are showing about a 7-8 inch deficit for the year. We are in D2 drought, Moderate drought... Have been there since early in the year. We had a wet Feb and May, and every other month has been 1-2 inches short of normal. Had 13 inches snow early last month; Dec; and about 7 inches back last Jan and 13 inches in Feb... but with a super dry March, the moisture it put in the ground was sucked back out with the wind. Plus we have had more wind than I can remember in 20 years... Getting 8 inches rain in May does make it look like not that bad a yearly average, but it doesn't last long in the windy dry hotter months of summer and fall.
I honestly do not know how you folks do with the winds in the plains states and such. Of course, your vegetation has adapted to it over the years. Our grasses here are not adapted to such dry conditions and just don't do good with less than our "normal 3-4 inches a month"...
 
We go in and out of the red and orange. I really question that monitor. They have moved some placed out of the red to the orange when they haven't even gotten rain. LoL

We got 1/2 our annual rainfall this past year. It all came the first 6 months of the year. We received 0.5-2" the last 6 months.
 
We managed 28.6 inches out of a 38 inch average. 41 instances of measurable precipitation. 13 inches came in May 6.65 inches, June3.05 inches, and July 3.25 inches. Went from August 31 to October 24 without any rain but had a good slow 4.2 inch rain October 24 and 25 that got the winter grass and clover going.

Was a decent year grasswise. Not many hot 100F and above days helped balance the rainfall shortage.
 
16.8” total precip for 2025 including moisture from snow. And we had 50” of snow in December. If not for being frozen for 5 months a year this place would be a desert.
