On a field graded on 1/10 a bump 1.2" high will back water up 100'. I like 3/10's better than 1 but I have one field thatwe had to do on .85 of 1/10. A lot of fields ov other parts of the area and just a few beside me are on 0, That's right no fall at all, completely flat.
see now you know why I call you a darned flatlander

I guess the heifer prognastication is right, for the time being anyway. We are having all heifer calves and just got about 4" of rain. More coming monday. I hope my Triticale seed didn't float out of the ground.

Raining hard here this morning, river been out of its banks since last week. It started to not be so sloppy unit this rain started, perdicting over 2 inches. Can I put pontoons on my tractor?

Man, I'm tellin' ya..... in your mind, visualize 3 inches of brown talcum powder with little shoots of last year's dead grass sticking out of it. That's my pasture.

we are needing some bad they say we are ahead for the month but they ain't figuring we were behind 15" for last yr so things won't look good if we don't start getting some shortly
That's one of the frustrating things about this area. We were almost 5 inches over for last year and we're so far almost an inch over for this year. The farm we had north of here 20 miles alwasy got a lot less rain this this one would get, still the same now

yep 5 miles can make a big difference in rain fall around here
I was up by my other place about 35 miles north west of where I live last saturday and it started raining at 1pm and rained all afternoon
headed home about 6:30 got into a heck of a rain and hail storm about 15 miles North of me and got about 5 miles north and it quit got home didn't even get a sprinkle in the dust on the hood of the truck sitting in the driveway

I am still waiting for our first significant dry spell since October. We are only an inch above normal but it is a given that it will rain here in the winter. Thsi year it has been cold along with wet. Three year out of four I turn out to grass around the first of April. It wont happen this year. I am thinking I will be lucky if I am able to go by the 15th. The cows winter lot is a sea of mud. It is so much fun calving out in a sea of mud....

Sold more cows today...

vett,
Saw your winter annual pics on the other thread (which I can't find at the moment). Thanks for posting--looked nice all things considered. Sorry rain didn't/hasn't come through.

Was your sell decision something akin to "offense is the best defense" (good cow prices/reduce feeding needs if drought worsens) or are things already THAT bad in your neck of the woods?
