is anyone getting decent rain right now? My pasture is starting to struggle. What was green is slowly turning brown, lol. Not the way I was wanting this summer to get going.
 
Nope, it's all going around us. But the showers we get, a tenth here a tenth there makes it impossible to get hay to cure. What we have standing looks like it will be cut way past it's prime and be mostly filler.
 
I'm in rough shape--haven't had any rain in a few weeks. It gone from cool to pretty hot all of a sudden so the fescue is stalling out but the warmer season grasses having nothing to drink. I've never had a grass shortage in May--the last 3 years it has been out of control this time of year. If something doesn't change soon I'll be feeding or selling cows one. Neither make me very happy
 
Need rain here. Just laid down first hay of the season which usually would be right on time May 24 most years. But standing fescue is starting to brown now. But don't want to cut it to short to watch it burn up this summer. This dry this early is starting to make me worry. Another month like May and we will be making lists of what should be the first to go. And we are still a month away from our dry months July and August.
 
Right on the verge of too much rain here, SE Ohio. The last two days have been dry & tomorrow looks mostly dry though there is a 20% chance of rain in the afternoon. Which I could really do without because I just mowed a beautiful 12 acre patch of mixed grass hay that is ripe & ready & I need it to dry all day tommorrow so I can bale it & get it in the barn before the rain hits. I knew I was taking a risk but when I cut it they were calling for a 30% chance of rain Thursday afternoon which would've given me plenty of time. But of course as soon as I get in from cutting the hay last night I check the weather & the forecast has changed.

That hay is 4' tall everywhere now & 5' in places & thick as can be. So I'll probably average about 125 bales an acre, that's 1,500 @ $4 maybe even $5 a bale depending on what the weather does the rest of this summer losing that to rain will be a big loss for our little farm.

So as hard as you're praying for rain, I'm praying against it. At least for 24 hours lol.

About 3 weeks ago the neat 90 degree temps were giving the grasses a hard time. The few showers we had gotten over the prior month really weren't enough but we've gotten around 7 inches since then. The brown in our pastures is because the ryegrass and most of the clovers are done for the season. The warm season grasss are coming on nicely.
 
Rain is like a cuss word at my house right now. It has rained for the last month. We are so far behind it is getting scary. We really just got started setting tobacco today. Will be rough beating frost on the other end I fear. 75 acres to go. Dad did get started rolling hay today. Hope he gets the rest down rolled tomarow. Rain is coming Thursday they say.
 
We got 3.5 inches yesterday in about an hour, then another inch over night. Rain in the forecast everyday as far out as it goes. Depressing, wheat crop is going to heck, can't get beans planted or hay done, corns going to be to tall to side dress by the time it dries out. Grass has had decent moisture all season but it's been cold and haven't got the growth we normally do.
 
It sounds like everyone is either getting too much or not enough. Its gone from cool with barely enough moisture to hot and dry in a hurry here.
 
More dreaded rain today more coming tonite. Looks like a sad repeat of last year. About like living in the rain forest here since oct. of 14
 
We are rain rich right now. Got hay on the ground. Forecasted weather was clear all week with a slight chance tomorrow. Wouldn't you know, it's been raining this morning!

Has rained almost every day here this month.

I do lawn care for a living, its been pretty tough getting everything mowed in a week.
 
Our chance for 1/10th of an inch turned in to 2.1 and still counting......also had a tornado touch down about 23 miles away in a neighborhood near where I used to live.
 
The local tv station said early this morning that we had 50% chance today. So today we've had the worst flooding I've seen in the almost 40 years I've lived in my current location. My house is on a high hill, but I can't get there. Spending the night with many son and daughter-in-law. I'll try to get home tomorrow after daylight. Oh, and remember I said we had a 50% chance for rain today? It's 80% for tomorrow. But I'm still not complaining. I haven't forgotten 2011.
 
Yesterday it started of south of us, today it's to the north.... I'm actually running a little behind average for the year. Being wet already, this is just going to run off into the already bloated Brazos River.




Next week is looking wet too.
 
My pasture is a few days away from being dead as a hammer--they keep giving rain chances and next thing you know take it away. I don't have a chance in the forecast until late next week and its just one day. SCREWED
