Neighbor called said he killed a coon he suspected had rabies.
He was out in the middle of the day and came at him hissing and growling.
Usually don't see this till it start's getting hotter and dryer.

Thanks for posting the link Gale.

Caustic, I have found a raccoon behaving much the same way a couple of winters ago while tending to a feeder, sheltered by a dog-house, for water fowl while at work. I flipped the top of the dog house up and surprise! I gave it a wide-berth. That thing wasn't right for sure. I left it alone. I came back about an hour later and it was floating in the pond (dead).

Fortunately (or unfortunately) I have had the series of shots and check my titre every year, get a booster when needed.

Rabies is nasty business.

They been dropping some sort of oral vaccination stuff around here for coons lately.

Maybe we ought to pen them and give them shots every year?

I heard a fellow from FL talking about his dogs finding those.
Something like dog biscuts with a "gel" pill in them.
Walking in the "woods" the dogs found seven. After doing some checking found the federal gov was air dropping for rabies control.

We had a racoon in our yard a few months ago, that came right up close to us, acting very strange, it got shot, but my guess it had rabies, Highly unusual for them to come out in broad daylight, by people, and it was not scared.
