"The Daytona International Speedway did not live up to its responsibility today. We should have had a SAFER barrier there today, we did not. We're going to fix that. We're going to fix that right now. We've got the team out tonight. We're going to install tire packs along that 850-foot linear square feet of wall, so we're ready to go racing tomorrow. Following that, the Daytona International Speedway is going to install SAFER barrier on every inch at this property. This is not going to happen again. We're going to live up to our responsibility. We're going to fix this and it starts right now."

Seems like there was a lot of talk about track safety at that time as well.
There was, but the problem wasn;t the track. That was what brought the HANS device into mandatory use.

Yes it was. They perhaps should have taken a closer look at the track and walls as well at that time.

Glad to see Joey get the win today.

Would have been interesting had it stayed green considering the little incident Harvick &22 had in the duals... Jr might have made it two in a row!

Daytona claims they will put SAFER barrier around the entire track, outer and inner walls. I saw a report of $500/ft. So when they say cost won't be a consideration they better mean it.
