Bossman handed me the 2025 Mushrush Production catalog when I got to work this morning. We turned 5 Mushrush bulls in with the red angus cows last year and have been blown away by the results... a whole crop of Copy and Paste calves. Mrs. Bossman is so pleased that she's decided to to get at least 3 more from the upcoming sale on the 21st, and they've asked for some input from me.

I'm excited about getting new bulls and about getting to participate in the selection, but I have some questions for those of you who have Mushrush SimAngus bulls or have used them via AI. Our prime data points for selection are "actual BW" and Docility.

My specific question regarding Docility is with the 1-5 rating. Can someone help me understand the rating? Most on the bulls are rated a "1" for most docile. There are a handful of "2"s and a couple of "3"s.

I would call a "1" a bell that is friendly, likes scratches and hand feedings. "2" would be calm in close quarters and not fight (real fight) with other bulls. "3" would be a bit more aggressive with other bulls, but not people and would not be an a-hole about loading, penning, etc. "4" a little to Squirly for comfort."5" would be a man-eater. Where does your bull land on this scale compared to the score indicated by Mushrush?

Also, I am familiar with some sires by name (Julian and Superman specifically), but not any dams. Does anyone have lineage recommendations?

Any other information that would be helpful in making a Mushrush selection?

Thanks in advance for your thoughtful and generous response.

I would not be worrying about the significance of the actual number just their ranking position within the herd. I would keep away from the 3's and possibly the 2's but make your own assessment on them on how they react to your movement around them before considering them and that goes for all of them.

I WISH I was going to Kansas to pick in person!! I'm putting in my two cents from the catalog and Mrs. Bossman is bidding online.

The five Mushrush bulls on the ranch are what I would call twos. They are simply unbothered by anything, but they arent too hugs and cuddles like the big bull we call "Petting Bull." P.B. is a genuine 1.

I know Daniel Mushrush and I have used Mushrush Topper AI to good results. The rule of thumb that I use is the fewer herds represented in the pedigrees the better. When I select bulls of my own to use, I know the good and the bad about his ancestors. Where as when I buy bulls I don't know anything about them.

Choose from lots 3, 4, 31, 113, or 115
Lot 3 was my favorite. At the time I stopped watching, he had brought the highest bid.

How did the sale go?
They NEEDED three bulls. Preferably not yearnings. They won two "age advantage" bulls, but had to pickup a yearling to have the 3 bulls they need. If you're buying one yearling, you might as well buy five, so they did. The Magnificent Seven should be joining the family soon.
