What do you want out of the calves? How will you sell/market them? I used a Pied bull on calves kept for family eating for 5 years. Good growth, no calving problems, good disposition, wouldn't keep for maternal. Choose bull carefully and don't use on heifers. If I had tried to sell calves at local auction with the rest of the herd would have taken a hit. If you want to sell very lean, very tender beef to a niche market, go for it. Be careful if you want to sell at a sale barn. IMO.
