I read stuff on these forums often, about Black Angus cattle and Black Continentals.

Do you think order buyers, or Feedlot owners and folks that know cattle have a hard time telling whats what?

order buyers are well schooled in what their buyers want.an they can look at any color cattle an know if they have a buyer for them.every area of the country is differant.what sells good here will most likely bomb in a nothern sale.order buyers also have a top price pre pound they can pay for the calves.

Probably not most of them. Most order buyers here remember names from years before. Most start up or less than three year old producers have a heck of a time selling their cattle at the price they hoped for becuase of no name recognition. I hate to say it is all about the name but most cases it is.

Yup I believe that's right.

For instance the Autioneer will announce the name of the producer and a few comments.

At a big sale there are always a lot of small numbers, like say 1 to 10 calves, from small operators far and wide.

There are a few things that will give the breed away. And I don't think the folks with a eye for cattle make many mistakes.

The guys I know that buy lots of cattle say "If they look Angus, they probably are"

If there are lots with say 25 or more their most likely Angus. Most of the continental cattle at least in this area are raised by small producers.

I don't think most people care unless they are feeding out the cattle. Some blacks show a lot of frame and they are nervous - - I call them Black Continentals.
