I saw your ad in the HW. How can you afford to offer free shipping on bulls purchased?

At $3 per mile and say shipping 300 miles really eats into a bull that sold for say $2400????

Just curious to how you pencil out such an offer?

Also why sell the bulls in Nebraska and not at home in Ky?

Thanks, Idaman, but mine finally showed up in today's mail! In the future, y'all keep me in mind if any important news comes out in it. Apparently, I'm at the end of the pony express delivery route. Now, I've got to look at mrvictordomino's ad!

George I still havent got mine. Mine will show up closer to the end of the month.

As for shipping on bulls. I will take the little bull when you get him weaned for say pound price and you ship him here. :)

I know nothing about this sale but some of the others bet that several bulls will need to be delivered in the same area or at least the same direction. They are also thinking that the person will pay more if they do not have to worry about the delivery. Might be cheaper to pay a few hundred more and have him delivered "free".
$3 per mile on one bull adds up but $3 per mile on 10 bulls is pretty cheap per bull.

Sorry being late to respond, just returned from the hospital where my dad is in intensive care, he is
doing better!!
In reference to your questions, we at one time ran two registered breeds, Polled Herefords which we
have had for 35 years, and Red Angus which we ran for 10 years. I met Scott and Kim Ford in 1998
and purchased line bred Chief line bulls from them to use in my herd. Later we began selling our red bulls
in their production sales and the bulls were delivered free as a customer service to the buyers.
The cost is not as high as you might think since the bulls are not delivered one at a time. The bulls are
sorted by region and when a group gets delivered, the 28' trailer is nearly full leaving the ranch.
As far as selling bulls in NE, Cross Diamond has offered Hereford bulls in their production sales since
they moved to Bertrand. A couple of years ago they lost their source of Herford bulls and we offered
to send some since they were completly different than what was previously offered.
We are trying to get these genetics scattered into different parts of the country to show what they can
do. We have sent bulls into thirty states, and would like to see how they work in some top commercial
herds. Our KY market has been been stable but we have the capability to produce more than we can sell
locally, however that is rapidly changing since folks here are finally seeing the benifits of crossbreeding.

Thanks JHH, many years of work and planning are coming together.
Too bad cattle breeding is such a slow process!!
