Question about winter feeding my heifers

My heifers get average/low quality free choice hay, free choice cottonseed meal, loose salt and mineral and 1lb of 38% cottonseed meal cubes per head each day. The average body score is 5.5 to 6.5 and they are due in march thru may.

What can I feed them differently to keep their body score up and save a little cash. Or is my winter feeding program ok as it is. Thanks,

What's the crude protein level on the meal/salt mix your feeding? You might not even need the cubes.

Its 41% crude protein.

Oh ok you're not mixing the salt with the meal to limit consumption. Just for simplicity and to limit consumption I'd just feed the cubes at a little higher level and do away with the meal.

I do mix salt with the meal at a rate of about 10lbs of salt for every 50lbs of meal. Sorry I forgot to mention that.
