I live in NV at 6000 ft elevation. My land is predominantly sagebrush, there are other plants, most of them even more noxious than sage, but the biggest part of my land is rocks. I realize I need to feed, no big deal, but was wondering if anyone has tried beefmasters or highlands cattle in such country.

We get snow and have fairly mild summers. A lot of sun but it stays about 10-15 degrees cooler than Reno.

Any experience out there with this ? Thanks.

What do the area ranchers run would be my best advice. Being from the Coastal Plains of Texas sounds like you need goats.

I have never been to Nevada; but 6000 ft of elevation seems a little too cold for a Brahman derived breed like Beefmasters. Galloways would work up there (assuming they have something to eat) although I would not write off Herefords or Anguses either.

I don't think you need to bring in eared cattle, try Angus or hereford.

There is floppies in NV i know that there is some in Battle mountain country and some over towards Winnemucca and a good bunch down towards Ely but you might be colder than them over there. I think you are close to fallon if i'm not mistaken. I wouldnt mess with them where your at myself they wont have any advantages over the good Nevada type cattle and the Beefmasters i've seen are flat snotty.
