With rain almost every other day I can grow a bunch of grass but I can't make hay.

lol We have had about 10 inches of rain in the last 2 weeks I cut this today and after finished it rained on it WTF there was no rain in sight on radar

That's the way our haying season went. Some folks waited till now when it's supposed to be dry for 4-5 days and the stuff is about useless for hay and the weeds have pretty well taken over everything.

Same here. Every cutting is getting rained on 3 times.

On the bright side you should be able to graze longer.

Mine is over my knees now and starting to fall over. The thicker it gets the tougher its going to be to dry if it gets rained on if cut. I'm hoping maybe next week I'll get a break.

Still waiting on it to dry for first cutting UP here. Most spots are up to my waist and some spots are up close to my shoulders. It's been raining ever 2nd or 3rd day and there is standing water in almost all of the fields so we need a little dry weather just to get the ground dry enough to get a tractor on, then we need drying weather to get the hay put up. One of the best hay crops I've seen in many many years just hoping that we can get it in the barn before it starts going the other direction. The hay is so thick that getting it dry will be a challenge....

Impatience got the best of a friend of mine yesterday. He cut his field and it rained last night. I drove by and he had just finished fluffing it and over my shoulder was a big wall of black. It just finished raining about a half hour ago.

Put a pair of welding gloves on when you pull them. Helps a lot.

Had the same problem on one of my fields. So thick it clogged up my tedder. Had it in pretty decent shaped raked in one evening rained half inch on it next morning. Baled it yesterday, a little heavy but with a 50% chance today afraid to get it wet again. Window so big could not hardly drive over them, got a guy to help me bale, 13 acres made 32 5 x5 rolls and 44 4 x 4.5 rolls.

I've been in the same boat here, but this is pretty normal for us. I have been considering getting set up for baleage because of the rain.

I can make baleage out of it but I'd rather not and only use that as a last resort.

Still no break in the weather. Its looking like things are going to be fun when and if it ever breaks.

Well you can say you heard it hear first. Houstoncutter weather forecast. Do something quick, we have a weak front pushing through this weekend. If that sucker makes it into the gulf, look out it will probably go tropical .

A few years back (when still using a cyclebar mower, if that tells you anything) neigbhor cut hay across the road, most while it was raining. He wanted to quit but the owner wouldn't let him. Turned out to be pretty good hay. Only thing we can figure is because hay was fresh cut and green while rain was falling on it, it wasn't hurt. Was a pretty green color when baled and didn't turn brown like most rained on hay will do. Go figure.

You are in pretty good shape if it rains on it when you cut it. What harms hay is it getting rained on when its almost dry because this will leach nutrients. We just got at least 2 inches so I'm glad I'm patient. This is the third rain on my friends hay and tomorrow we are supposed to get a bunch.

Thats a good problem to have. We got a little rain a month or so ago and we are trying to get what little will bail before it gets all burned up. No rain in the forecast for a while. Still waiting on that hurricane.
