Gandhi would go on hunger strikes to advance his causes.
Maybe Putin has come up with a new and improved version of Gandhi by putting his entire nation on a hunger strike?
Think Putin will bring in Kim Jong Un from North Korea to tell his people...
"You are not hungry, you have had enough to eat today."

Vladimir Putin this week barred imports of agricultural produce from countries which have imposed sanctions on Russia for Moscow's support of the rebels in Ukraine. Fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and dairy imports from the EU, Australia, Canada, Norway and the US, would be banned immediately, Russia's prime minister, Dmitry Medvedev, told a government meeting on Thursday .
Since the Soviet days, however, Russia has switched from being a net exporter of food to relying on many imported products, especially meat and dairy.

I'd bet the south American countries would be willing to fill the void
It appears the MO is to become self sufficient and are taking steps in that direction and Ukraine the so called the "bread basket" is an intricate part

I don't think Putin has any backdown in him and has no one to fear. He'll move slowly inch by inch pushing a little harder each time and thumb his nose in defiance
